I prefer this method because it creates solid bearing of the deck all the way down to the concrete pier.
Post to concrete pier connection.
Post base timber pier rod plate.
A galvanized steel plate or pvc spacer is used to separate the concrete and the wood.
The arrows point at the hardware and bolts connecting the post to the concrete lock.
I then use through bolts that pass through the beam and this post extension to complete the connection.
Post bases have an elevated bottom compartment with an opening that is designed to lock into a concrete anchor which is embedded in the top of the concrete pier.
To concrete connection do not behave like the wood post or the concrete pier they connect.
I never use lag bolts.
